The Royal Shakespeare Theatre

The Royal Shakespeare Theatre is currently undergoing redevelopment.

The new Royal Shakespeare Theatre is due to be completed in 2010. The new theatre will house a new 1000 seat thrust stage auditorium, the largest thrust stage with a tiered auditorium in the world. This new configuration brings the audience closer to the actors, reducing the seat furthest from the stage from a distance of 29 metres to 15 metres.

The plans also include improved public spaces and riverside walkway, a rooftop restaurant, theatre tower with viewing platform and new public square.

Until work on the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre is complete The Courtyard Theatre will be the RSC’s main home. The Company will also make use of other venues across Stratford upon Avon, such as the Civic Hall.
